C. L. Phipps Gold Wedding Anniversary

A celebration, as reported in the December 30, 1904 Skidmore Standard (Skidmore, Missouri), page 1:

Gold Wedding.

On last Saturday Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Phipps celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.  They were married in Quincy, Illinois, December 24, 1854.  Mrs. Phipps remembers very distinctly that it was exactly such a gloomy day as Saturday.

Several were invited, but, owing to various causes, only a few could be present to partake of the excellent dinner, which Mrs. Phipps and daughter had prepared.

Those present were:  Mr. W. W. Tracy, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Hughes, Mr. and Mrs. Oren Phipps and three children.  A number of nice presents were received.  To this union were born ten children, only five of whom are living, the others having died in infancy. The eldest child, Lawrence, lives in Caldwell, Kansas, Mrs. J. M. Mann in Holt county and the others in this county.

Mr. Phipps is nearly 74 years old and Mrs. Phipps nearly 76.
