Clarinda Chautauqua, 1902

Lecture fans were in for a treat, or at least we can guess they were, if this article from the August 8, 1902 Skidmore New Era (Skidmore, Missouri) is any indication:

Yesterday, August 7, was the opening day of the Clarinda Chautauqua.  Col. Geo. W. Bain started the ball rolling with one of his famous lectures.  The dates for the Chautauqua this year are August 7 to 21 inclusive.  There will be 18 lectures, 14 entertainments, 24 Bible lectures, 46 musical numbers, 6 educational lectures, 4 miscellaneous talks and 2 sermons, making in all 114 numbers.

The Chautauqua has secured the best talent possible, and with the low price of $2.00 for a season ticket, Clarinda ought to have the largest crowds in the history of the city during the next two weeks.
