Coal Shortage, 1902

From the December 16, 1902 Skidmore Standard (Skidmore, Missouri):

Ad for Pinkston Brothers coal: "Did You Ever C [see] better coal? We don't believe you ever did. Our coal is all coal -- good, solid, clean, black diamonds, nothing better to be found. Buy now. Pinkston Bros."

From the Skidmore Standard (Skidmore, Missouri), November 9, 1900.

Hot Air at a Premium.

I. S. Dawson went north on last evening’s passenger in search of coal.  The coal situation in Skidmore as well as other points, is getting quite alarming.  All the dealers are out and the prospects for them to stock up their bins are not the best in the world.  Likewise the wood supply is affected with the shorts.  The man who has wood or coal to sell these days is the man we all want to see.  What a great pity it is that some fellow was not fore-thoughted enough to cork up a batch of last summer’s heat. Hot air bottles would sell at a premium just now.
