Decoration Day

From the May 15, 1913 Skidmore New Era:

Will Observe Decoration Day.

Graham, Skidmore and Quitman will observe Decoration Day.  Memorial sermons will be preached at each of those places the Sunday preceding and the old soldiers and other friends will meet again on May 30 when appropriate addresses will be delivered and the graves of all old soldiers decorated.

A feature of this year’s observance will be a general decoration of graves of loved ones.  While we all want to honor the old soldiers who have gone to the great beyond; we also have other loved ones whose graves should be decorated at least once a year.

Let us make this not only a memorial of our honored soldiers but a sacred day to all our dead.

Come out on Decoration day and pay your respects to those who have gone before.
