Francis White Montgomery celebrates

From the April 3, 1913 Skidmore New Era (Skidmore, Missouri), page 5:

Celebrated 72nd Birthday.

Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Montgomery and two youngest children went to Oregon Friday to celebrate the seventy-second birthday of Mr. Montgomery’s mother.

The birthday dinner was a complete surprise on Mrs. Montgomery and was given at the home of Mrs. Grace Dungan, a niece and foster daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Montgomery.

Those present beside Mr. and Mrs. Robert Montgomery and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Dungan, were Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Montgomery and two children of Skidmore and Mrs. Nell McRoberts, of Mound City, a niece of Mr. and Mrs. Montgomery.

Mrs. Francis White Montgomery was born and raised in Jackson county, Ohio.  She was married to Robert Montgomery forty-eight years ago in her native county and came with her husband to Oregon, Missouri, forty-two years ago, where Mr. Montgomery embarked in the banking business and where they have lived ever since.

Mr. Montgomery has all this time been closely identified with the development and progress of his home city and connected with almost every financial enterprise of his part of the community.  His activity business history is in a large part of the history of Oregon and Holt county.  To enumerate it would be to relate the banking and early financial history of their home town and country.  No people are held in higher esteem by their neighbors and many friends than Mr. and Mrs. Robert Montgomery of Oregon, Missouri.
