The November 30, 1900 Skidmore Standard announced, “The Skidmore M. E. church Epworth League is planning for an elocutionary contest for Friday evening, Dec. 28. None but out of town people will be permitted to enter the contest.”

Sure enough, those out-of-town contestants were announced in the December 14, 1900 issue, page 5:
