Notes or transcript:  “The Elmo Register contained an article last week, about the elopement of a young Mr. Kaufman and a Miss King from near that place. The couple passed through Skidmore the other morning. They left their team at a farm south of town and boarded the train at Maitland, for Kansas, where they had been told they could marry without a license. The girl is only sixteen years old. Her father was here Tuesday night looking for her. When told that the couple had gone to Kansas, he gave up the chase and telegraphed them, if they would return home he would not be angry any more.”
