Letters Home: Basil Rodman at Camp Pike

In the days leading up to Veterans Day, we remember those from Skidmore, Missouri who served in the Great War.  This bit of news was printed in the January 17, 1918 Skidmore News on page 1:

Cold at Camp Pike.

In a letter to home folks, Basil Rodman says the thermometer at Camp Pike, Arkansas, where he and Walter Patterson are stationed, had reached 10 below zero, the coldest weather they have had there for fifteen years.

He is well pleased with army life and says he has acquired knowledge through his experience as a soldier that he would never have gained in any other way, and he is anxious for the time to come when he will be ordered to France.
