Manchester Band Social

Ice Cream! at the Pinkston Lawn, Saturday afternoon and evening by the Manchester Band.

Ad from the June 28, 1901 Skidmore Standard, page 1.

Ice cream socials were a popular fundraiser in Skidmore (and, no doubt, in other parts, too), and Skidmore’s Manchester Band had just met with ice cream success a short time before, so they decided a repeat was in order.  This one also lived up to its advertising, as reported by the Standard in its July 5, 1901 edition, also on page 1:

The Manchester Band met with great success selling ice cream last Saturday afternoon and evening.  They sold about two hundred and eighty dishes of cream and enough lemonade to make the total amount taken in $30.50.  The weather was fine and everybody enjoyed themself.
