Miss Grace Hoyt Wins Plume

We checked several cost estimators, and Grace’s $5.00 plume would in today’s dollars cost over $100.  From the November 5, 1914 Skidmore New Era (Skidmore, Missouri), page 8:

Drew Lucky Number

Miss Grace Hoyt of Quitman drew the lucky number and won the $5.00 plume given away by Sharp & Parson Millinery store at Skidmore, Saturday, October 31.  With every dollar’s worth of goods sold the purchaser was allowed to write down a number.

This number was a guess on a number which was in an envelope attached to the plume.  The number was placed in the envelope by J. O. Miller.

When the envelope was opened it contained the number 250.  The person guessing the nearest the number received the plume.  Miss Hoyt guessed number 243, which was the nearest guess and she received the plume and was very glad to get it.
