Mrs. J. T. Linville’s Birthday

From the May 18, 1900 Skidmore Standard, page 1, happy birthday to Elizabeth Jane Sharp Linville, wife of Joseph Thomas Linville:

A Birthday Dinner.

This old world is full of surprises, more or less pleasant and otherwise.  Sometimes they come in the natural course of events and at other times friends have to do with the making of them.  One of the latter kind occurred at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Linville, 4 miles northeast of town, Sunday, it being Mrs. Linville’s forty-sixth birthday.

In the Linville home the usual Sabbath quiet reigned.  Mrs. Linville was engaged in preparing the noon day meal when buggies and carriages carrying numerous relatives began to arrive.  Before Mrs. Linville knew what was happening the ladies of the party had taken charge of the house and spread a sumptuous dinner from baskets which had been filled with good things for the occasion.  Then they all ate and made merry.  There were fifty self-invited guests, all of whom were relatives except two or three.
