New Year’s Social

The program and contests are fine, but we all know it’s always about the refreshments.  From the January 3, 1902 Skidmore Standard:

New Year’s Social

Mrs. T. L. Howden, assisted by Mrs. E. T. Duval and Mrs. F. N. Campbell, entertained the Neighborly Club Friday evening.  The main features of the occasion were, the progressive literary contest, the program and the refreshments.  The Neighborly Club has a leaning toward literary matters.  Some of the members have even taken to writing poetry; and at each entertainment of the club one is sure to meet some guessing contest which will task his brain and memory not a little to give even a partial solution.  The program was short and entertaining, the refreshments were dainty and pleasing to the palate, and altogether a very pleasant evening was spent.  The old year was watched out and the new year welcomed before the guests departed for their homes.
