Notes or transcript:  “That ‘money will do anything’ may be all true enough in some cases but here is a case where it fails to come to pass. ‘It is rumored that David Rankin has 1800 acres of corn which the weeds are taking, he not being able to secure farm hands to tend it. It is also reported that S. H. Prather has 900 acres of hay which he is offering to give away for the cutting of it and an occasional fork full for himself. These stories may be exaggerated, but as they have traveled only 9 miles there may be some truth in them. It is a sorrowful state of affairs anyhow, and sad it is when money won’t buy what is most needed. – Atchison County Journal.”
