Second Annual Commencement, 1900

Second Annual Commencement.

Last Friday witnessed the close of a very successful term of the city schools. Prof. A. S. J. Smith with his assistants, Mrs. George Patton, Misses Artie Hobbs and Maude Montgomery, conducted the school ably and wisely to the satisfaction of all so far as we are able to learn.

Friday evening, commencement exercises were held in Cook’s opera house. The four graduates, Misses Edith Torrey, Mattie Porter, and Messrs James Barrett and James G. Parshall, are certainly a credit to the school. They have left high grades and good records behind them and their essays and orations would do credit to graduates from a much higher institution than a little city high school.

Those who contributed their talent to the very entertaining program were Mrs. Adrain Pinkston, Misses Mina Porter, Callie Grigsby, Leona Wright, Messrs. A. C. Dodds, and James Lawson, and the Mandolin Club. Rev. C. O. Mills, President of Maryville Seminary, delivered the class address.
