Jesse who was sentenced to the penitentiary at the 1899 March term of circuit court in this county, for the murder of Frank Griffin in Maryville. Jesse’s term at Jefferson City was very short as he was not taken to the penitentiary for several months after he was sentenced, because of the smallpox epidemic which was raging about that time in Maryville.”
