Surprise for Mrs. J. C. Brown

From the October 28, 1902 Skidmore Standard, page 1:

A Surprise.

A surprise party was given in honor of Mrs. J. C. Brown and children, Sunday, Oct. 19, 1902.

Mrs. Brown just arrived in this vicinity from Nebraska, to visit relatives and friends for a short time and her friends and relatives gave her a surprise on the above date at the home of her mother, Mrs. W. M. Totton.

About sixty guests were present to enjoy the occasion and from all appearances everyone had their share of fun. At noon a number of baskets were brought into evidence and a most beautiful dinner was served to which all did justice and greatly enjoyed.

Vocal and instrumental music was rendered during the day by Mrs. W. A. Staff, Mrs. J. C. Brown and sisters and Misses Lulu and Retta Totton.

We wish Mrs. Brown and children many more such happy days.

One Who Was There.
