Track Meet, 1915

There was some serious competition for real prizes at the Skidmore School track meet in April 1915.  The order of events, as reported in the April 8, 1915 Skidmore New Era, was as follows:

S. H. S. Track Meet

Friday, April 16, Beginning at 1:30 O’clock

Everybody come out and spend the afternoon with the young people.  Headquarters on vacant lot near the Christian church.  The business men have given liberally so we have about $30.00 in premiums.

ORDER OF EVENTS

I — 50 yd. dash, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade boys, 1st prize, $1.00 cash.  2nd prize, neck tie.

II — 220 yd. dash, free for all.  1st prize, $1.00 cash.  2nd prize, 75c cahs.

III — Throwing hammer, high school girls.  1st prize, 75c cash.  2nd prize, 50c cash.

IV — Shot put, free for all.  1st prize, 75c cash.  2nd prize, 50c cash.

V — Hitching a horse single and getting into vehicle, free for all girls.  1st prize, pair kid gloves.  2nd prize, 75c cash.  3rd prize, 50c silk hose.

VI -0 1/4 mile run, free for all.  1st prize, $1.50 shirt.  2nd prize, $1.00 cash.

VII — Potato race, high school girls, 1st prize, 50c cash and 50c merchandise.  2nd prize, 50c box holly chocolates.

VIII — Standing broad jump, free for all.  1st prize, 75c cash.  2nd prize, 50c cash.

X — Nail driving, free for all girls.  1st prize, $1.00 cash.  2nd prize, 50c merchandise.

XI — Pole vault, free for all.  1st prize, dress shirt.  2nd prize, neck tie.

XII — Hop, step and jump, free for all.  1st prize, $1.00 cash.  2nd prize, 50c cash.

XIII — Running high jump, free for all.  1st prize, $1.50 cash.  2nd prize, $1.00 cash.

XIV — 1/2 mile run, free for all.  1st prize, $2.00 cash.  2nd prize, $1.50 shirt.  3rd prize, $1.00 cash.
