Uncle Billy Ruddell

From the June 14, 1906 Skidmore New Era, page 1:

An Old Settler.

Uncle Billy Ruddell made this office a pleasant visit while he was in town last Saturday.  Notwithstanding the fact that he is almost ninety years old he often drives to town alone from his home six miles northwest of town and gets around quite lively for one of his age.

He has lived near here for the past forty years, having moved from Illinois in 1865.  It is quite interesting to hear him tell of the early days when the settlers drove to St. Joseph, then a village, to purchase their provisions and to dispose of their livestock.

Uncle Billy is a fine man and deserves the respect in which he is held by everyone.
