Notes or transcript:  “Old soldiers are advised to look out for some smooth fakirs. Three persons are in the work. They approach the victim by offering to sell him a book containing his war record, and to be accompanied by a certificate which, when properly filled out, will enable his widow or children to secure the pension without the usual tedious process. The old soldier is to pay a dollar down, and two more on delivery of the book. — Don’t bite. — Ex.”
