You Can Go Home Again

You can go home again, but they’ll make fun of you in the local newspaper when you do.  From the Skidmore Standard, July 27, 1900:

Mr. Ralph Dumm, of Kansas City, paid his respects in person to the Standard force Tuesday and wanted to know what we were “going to put in the paper” about him.  “Rats,” as he is known in Skidmore – he has never yet been hailed by this appellation in Kansas City, nor does he desire to be – is quite a handsome young fellow.  He wears long trousers now and has a position with one of the large wholesale houses of Kansas City.  He will remain in Skidmore two or three weeks if life here doesn’t prove too tame.
