You have been to see a horse buyer

We’re not sure whether Mr. G. B. Dougherty was being modest, or whether he was being honest in this ad from the August 23, 1906 Skidmore New Era (Skidmore, Missouri), page 4. ¬†We do not claim to have the best ad for a horse buyer, but at any rate, once you’ve read it (click to enlarge), you will think you have read an ad about having been to see a horse buyer.

Wanted! Big heavy horses and mares. I will be in Skidmore at Barrett & Dawson's barn, Saturday, August 25, to buy your horses and mares, the same to be fat but not necessarily sound or good workers, for Dougherty buys them all. Come and see me. If you do not know me inquire of your neighbors. I do not say I am the best horse buyer that comes to your country but you will think you have been to see a horse buyer when you have been to see me. Come one, come all. G. B. Dougherty.
